Shetu Inc. is a community-based non-profit organization which was founded with the aspiration of assisting the low-income, Bangladeshi immigrant populations to facilitate an easier acculturation into mainstream society in America. Initially, an informal peer group of members, who had a similar interest of working for the immigrant communities decided to provide a platform for the newly-arriving migrants and started working under the name Youth Congress of Bangladeshi-Americans (YCBA). Ever since its formation, the organization has been dedicated to assisting immigrant populations with various programs and resources, enabling them to effectively participate in the communities they live in.
YCBA was incorporated as a nonprofit organization in 2011 and received its IRS-approved tax exempt 501(c)(3) status in 2014. In 2015, YCBA changed its name to Shetu. Shetu, which translates to “bridge” in English, deemed a better fit with our vision to work for the underserved, immigrant communities in the US by bridging the socio-cultural gap and promoting civic participation. Annually, Shetu Inc. serves over 4000 community members through its various programs, events and workshops.
